Chain Challenge Tactics

Just wondering how people approach them. Offensive, omni-tank with support, saves, what do people go for?

I recently started doing them again after not touching them since book 5 chapter 4 where I had for the first and only time been up to date with them as my orbs stash has fell from 2100 to 650 in the last few months. Went for an offensive approach with Soleil, N!Hana and Nowi who can all slaughter and dodge tank with backup from Little’Arachel who is a high speed powerhouse but also supportive with healing and start of turn flashing.

So far finished book 5 and only the hardest difficulty on the map against the brave units posed any risk of so much as losing a unit. It’s pretty funny seeing fallen oldest mech guy (forget his name) in his speedy beast form being effortlessly slaughtered by an unmerged little girl on a pony.

Fafnir?

My main team does the job well for pretty much every mode. B!Edelgard for near save and taking hits from certain ranged heroes, L!F!Byleth and B!Lysithea for taking out ranged and certain threats, and Hat!Azura as a backup attacker, dancer, and support with Cross Spur Res. Aether + refine sustains Edelgard and the others shouldn’t really be taking hits at all.

I save this team for last in Arena Assault. AR and SD I don’t put much actual effort into, and then this team can essentially handle anything the game throws at it (until Infernal / Abyssal LMHB, where I may have to switch out a unit).

I still do nearly all Chain Challenges with Brave Bow Summer Takumi, L-F-Robin, L-Azura, and Mirabilis

I’ve had to change it up a couple times when it comes to skills like Spd Prempt or units like Fatalgard but those four have proven extremely reliable against 98% of these things

Usually i galeforce it with S!Edelgard with S!Thorr support.

Bonus Doubler B!Dimitri with L!Eliwood support and typically Elim and Reyson as backup/support. Usually works out fine. I’ve tried this strat on auto-battle and somewhat works. Nothing too reliable so I don’t try that too often with the stamina cost being what it is.

Here’s my go-to team for CC:

Getting Canto for every unit is just bonkers :feh_ardenwoke:

Caineghis and Askr for ranged and close enemies respectively and Kaden + Reyson for support. They make those Maps pretty manageable. I also have Little Soren + the Azuras for easy completion too. Im not up to date with them, but im close.

The other stuff where you need a different team for every map is a pain in the ass tho🥲

I haven’t done these since last April (I like to save them all as a sort of orb bank for a huge summoning session), but last time I used L!Ike as a tank, Reyson for support, and Reinhardt and Gronnblade+ V!Mist for firepower

I just use whoever needs SP or HM plus a healer. Maybe with one really broken unit if it’s too difficult for pure SP grinding.

2 tanks to EP everything, an offensive carry to take out what the tanks can’t dent and Elimine.

+10 L!Lilina + 3 fairies. That’s my lazy solution for almost everything in this game.

That being said, I’m having a lot of fun lately with Chloé + S-supported Flayn and Nifl + L!Eliwood. Maybe I’ll try that for the next Chain Challenge.

Tbh for me it depends on what I’ll be up against. Different maps offer different challenges depending on the units you’re up against. So I’ll bring a team accordingly. But generally speaking I try to have a well rounded team, plus some way to keep them healthy for the longer ones (be it self healing or a healer proper).

One thing I do like to do with them (and squad assaults) is save them though. Instead of doing them right away I save them for later, sort of as a small reserve of orbs I can grab for when I really need them.

For normal and hard modes, I send in an auto battle team of infantry omnitanks (+B!Edel)

For lunatic challenges I need to do it myself, and I usually just run the team I used to clear them in the first place: OG Lyn, B!Eirika, B!Edel, and L!Azura

If I need a backup it’s usually only the last couple maps so I often bring a hyper offensive team of Corrinja, Lynja, Duo Azura, and another dancer

You actually do those lol? I only ever do them as a way to grind for summoner support on units. Just have them run the first two chapters of book I on hard on their own, or with a healer if needed. I only really bother with lunatic since they actually give orbs.

I like having feathers too, plus “do” is a strong word.

Like I said, I just autobattle them while I’m doing something else anyway.

I mean I auto battle those too on the rare occasions I do them. I just don’t bother because we get plenty of feathers as it is. Have no need to do them.

Not if you keep using them like I do. Building up units is about the only fun I have in this game, so I rarely ever have more than 200k feathers.

Haven’t been any units that interested me in a while tbh. Usually just seasonal demotes that I can’t really pull for because I have other things I’m saving for. Meanwhile most regular pool demotes tend to be pretty meh.

Most of mine are grail units, which is why I am slowing down a bit, because I want to build them, but also not exactly bad enough to spend grails.

I’m thinking of building another axe infantry unit though, since my only one currently (only merged one) is Echidna. Who I also want to update, but might wait for her refine first?

Anyway, I kinda want another one since my only merged melee green units are her and Fae.
