New Unit Suggestion: Rhea, the Spoilery One

'Sup, bois. After the conclusion of my last batch of units and some downtime to adjust to my new job, I’m back with some more unit suggestions. This week, I have a suggestion for a new Fallen unit.

Rhea: Vengeful One

“Fools who do not accept their own sins are undeserving of salvation! You humans are the ones who betrayed! You betrayed me, and you betrayed my mother!”

Rhea is the Archbishop of the Church of Seiros and is in truth the modern identity of the fabled saint Seiros herself. She guides the world under the guise of faith, longing for the day she can resurrect her mother, Sothis. After the fall of Garreg Mach monastery during an attack from the Adrestian Empire, Rhea fled to the Kingdom of Faerghus to recover and regroup, damning the name “Byleth” all the while.

HP: 40
ATK: 36
SPD: 35
DEF: 33
RES: 33
MOV: Infantry

BST: 177

Weapon: Aurora Breath (Dragonstone) - "MGT: 16.
Grants ATK+3. If foe uses sword, lance, axe, dragonstone, or beast damage, neutralizes foe’s bonuses (from skills like Fortify, Rally, etc.) during combat and foe cannot make a follow-up attack. After combat, if unit attacked, and inflicts 【Rattled】 on target. If foe’s Range = 2, calculates damage using the lower of foe’s Def or Res.

【Rattled】: If foe’s ATK - unit’s ATK ≥ 1, inflicts Special cooldown charge -1 on unit per attack."
Special: Blazing Flame - Before combat this unit initiates, foes in an area near target
take damage equal to 1.5 x (unit’s ATK minus foe’s Def or Res).
A: Death Blow 4 - “If unit initiates combat, grants Atk +8 during combat.”
B: Dragon-Scale Wall - “If unit’s ATK > foe’s ATK, reduces damage from attacks during combat and from area-of-effect Specials (excluding Røkkr area-of-effect Specials) by percentage = difference between stats × 4 (max 40%).”

Bored out of my mind at work, I contemplated making a draft for Seteth. However, I decided that I should probably do Rhea first.
To that extent, I thought I would try something different with her Sword of Seiros, playing on her role as Archbishop and natural enemy of Those Who Slither.

Aurora Breath: The Immaculate One’s offensive skill in the Crimson Flower route. As her appearance in that route is what this is based on, it’s the breath I chose instead of Hoarfrost. I feel fairly secure in my idea of the 【Rattled】 effect, but I’m still debating whether I’m satisfied with the base effect of her breath or not. That said, I cannot really think of any suitable alternative that isn’t already represented in her passives. I guess maybe I could make her breath effect what is currently her B skill and swap her B with something else?
As far as the Rattled effect goes: in 3H it’s an ability that prevents a unit from moving and renders them unable to use their Gambits. Instead of making a unit’s movement range 0 (which is not necessarily off the table, but I do foresee issues with it), I opted for the rendering Gambits ineffective. Essentially, I made the effect a reverse Heavy Blade effect, where if you’re ATK is lower than the enemy’s, you’re effectively inflicted with a Guard effect.
Blazing Flame: In 3H, Aurora Breath is an AoE effect, so I opted to translate this into an AoE special.
Death Blow: This was difficult. In 3H, The Immaculate One possesses the Deathblow ability, so it should be easy, right? Well, to make Dragon-Scale wall not overly busted as its original counterpart, I initially gave it the same mechanics as Repel and Close Call. So I could already hear the people complaining about her having Deathblow and a SPD-based move instead of Swift Sparrow. However, as I wrote this passage, an idea struck me for the effect of Aurora Breath (the last ability I drafted) that I could make work on slightly altered mechanics that actually appreciate Deathblow.
Dragon-Scale Wall: An ability that Rhea possesses as The Immaculate One. Functionally identical to Repel and Close Call, without a relocation effect, though it is a 70% reduction in 3H. She also possesses the skill “Ancient Dragonskin” which is another damage-reducing skill. It just made sense to give her one. To consolidate this with her A-skill and the effect of Aurora Breath, I altered it slightly so that it scaled off the difference in their ATK stats, rather than their SPD.

Thoughts on my idea? Comments, maybe? Concerns? Lemme know, feedback is welcomed. If you have someone you want me to take a crack at, feel free to ask that, too.

Unit Rework Suggestions

Elise, Light in the Dark

She’s minmaxed pretty poorly, ngl. No point of an anti follow up with speed that high, and she’s not going to win many atk checks with base 36.

Way I see it: A good number of effects guarantee a followup attack, which if it comes down to “Yes Followup” versus “No followup,” it comes down to a matchup of SPD for which effect wins out, the speedier unit getting the denial or the followup. And, including Deathblow, she sitting at 63 ATK on initiation, unmerged and no DFs. 68 with both of those, no support either time.

I think [Rattled] needs to be reworded. As it is now, it benefits the unit it is applied to. If Rhea applies it to a foe who has lower Atk than her, then her own special would be slowed.

It was more of a typo than it was needing a rewording.

I like the unit overall! But I agree with Usher that 55 Atk on enemy phase won’t win the Atk check much on EP.

Then an NFU effect would be preferred, but 35 spd is an awkward spot where she can neither reliably deny follow ups nor double on her own, but it’s also too high to justify an anti follow-up effect. If using effects like this, either raise her speed to the roof or dump it completely

Dragons are mostly EP units though, and trying to make her a PP unit is… really awkward when her B slot is purely for tanking. Most players would immediately replace Death Blow with a skill that suits her role more

You’re trying to look at her through the lens of a single-phase specialist, which she isn’t. She’s designed for more mix-phase capabilities, with her A and breath giving her more of an offensive presence and denying both faster melee units and VF tanks their followup (as well as Dragon-killers like L!Edelgard), while her B gives her EP survivability. I also initially planned to give her Rouse DEF/RES (but ended up scrapping that idea because it seemed unnecessary), which would have also added to her EP Survivability.

Yeah, I don’t care what most dragons are. I don’t believe that every unit of a specific type (in this case, Dragon) should all fit into a single archetype. It’s why I gave my Grima an initiation build instead of only running a counter build.

Let them. What people do once they have a unit isn’t any concern of mine. I gave my L!Edelgard Bold Fighter instead of Raging Storm.

You know… like all those EP-only repel users… oh wait most of those are sweepers aren’t they…

You’re trying to put too many eggs in one basket. I can understand a mixed role, but if you try to throw too many roles onto a single unit, they’ll just end up being inferior at doing either.

But eh, doesn’t matter. Not like this is an actual unit lol.

compared to all of the units with minmaxed stats these days, she’s kind of wasting ~10-20 spd. and I don’t think making her a light mythic is doing her any favors since she can’t be blessed.

also, b skill seems sort of underpowered. atk is probably the worst stat to have a close-call effect in.
