Servant Bond level curves

The question of the amounts of bond needed for each level for various Servants came up in another thread and I thought I would poke at the numbers for a bit. Namely, they’re not constant, so why do the amounts of bond differ between Servants? So far, my best answer is that it’s probably a statement about Servant personalities, and doesn’t seem to have anything to do with any hard stats otherwise.

I looked at 4* Sabers, which is a decently sized list that restricts the number of variables involved, and then added some 4* Lancers and 3* Sabers (and Jason), and a 4* Caster for a Cavalry class.

There are a couple of common bond growth types.

One is a very flat progression: 3k, 6.125k, 6.125k, 6.125k, 6.125k to level 5, then 262.5k, 290k, 300.5k, 309.5k, 315k. This holds for Suzuka Gozen, Nero Claudius, and Siegfried. After an initial fairly easy “getting to know you” phase, your relationship develops steadily as long as you spend time together. Of course, for everyone it’s the case that after the basic bond is established, the deeper relationship takes much more work but for these Servants it’s still just steady going. A very workaday sort of relationship.

Some grow linearly, then a bit quadratically: 2k, 3k, 4k, 5k, 6k, then 210k, 230k, 270k, 350k, 400k. These sorts of Servants strike me as high initial gregarity: Diarmuid Saber, Altria Lily, Qin Liangyu. It’s easy to hang out with them at first, but harder to make things deeper.

Other Servants are very spiky. Salter’s first 5 are 4.5k, 20k(!), 2.5k, 2.5k, 10.5k. Is she tsundere, resisting at first but then easily acquiescing to a deeper bond until hesitation the crucial step? Her back half is the same way: a comparatively low 160k followed by a wall at 365k, then a rather lower 315k, 310k, then 350k. Lancelot Saber uses the same numbers and Nitocris behaves similarly. Perhaps these Servants are touchy about certain subjects. Yagyu Munenori behaves similarly but at an even greater extreme, very standoffish in general: 5k, 15k, 10k, 2, 18k, followed by 150k before 400k (usually a capstone level), 300k, 280k, 370k, the highest total among 4* Sabers.

Then there is Raikou Lancer: 3.5, 8.5, 7, 6, 2.5, followed by 272.5, 330, 310, 290, 286. A unique pattern. A pattern which, if one graphs it, looks decidedly like… two… mounds…

I would be soooo disappointed if it wasn’t.

Still, yes, I’m glad you noticed, not many have talked about it. I was going to make a post at the beginning when I joined the forum but I forgot. The bond level curves are depending on the servants and their personality/history/lore. Salter makes sense since it’s not Seiba but…well…yanno. Another one who follow her suit is Summer Melt. (I’m guessing her normal 5* version is the same or more tsuntsun).

So yep, their bond curves is very depending on their personality. This is also shown in their bond lines, where you see how opened they have become towards you. So while most of us just thinks of SQ for reaching the next level of our 5* or 4* and hear some lines, there is a thought process behind the experience needed to reach the next bond level.

This is why FGO is so fun. :fgo_insane:

This piqued my curiosity. Some of the bond curves make a lot of sense, like needing to prove yourself to the prickly tsunderes.

Like Gilgamesh: 5, 15, 10, 2, 18 // 150, 430 (!), 340, 320, 405. Easy 6, huge spike on 7. It’s not uncommon actually, both Waver and Castoria share these exact values, but I wouldn’t have said they were alike… And so does Oberon. Not really seeing the correlation here.

Then you get the reliable senpai Emiya: 3, 6.1, 6.1, 6.1, 6.1 // 262, 290, 300, 310, 310. Yes, Bond 9 and 10 are the same value.

Sei offers another contrast: 1, 1.5, 2, 6, 17 // 292, 360, 340, 320, 315. Bit of a spike to 7, but downhill from there.

Big sis Jeanne gives you an easy gradual increase: 1.5, 2.25, 3, 3.75, 4.5 // 245, 280, 300, 330, 436. Well, except the jump at the end.

So I went fishing for interesting ones.

Like the Dioscuri Twins. 4.5, 20 (!), 2.5, 2.5, 10.5 // 110, 450 (!), 340, 330, 410. A lot like Gilgamesh actually. I’m thinking Castor got annoyed at how well you won over Pollux. Then again, Shuten and Gramps have this same curve, so idk.

Da Vinci Lily 2.5, 3.75, 5, 6.25, 10 // 257.5, 261, 309, 343.6, 431.4. A couple of strange values at the end actually, and a final bump in the road.

Scheherazade surprised me: 4, 12, 3, 13, 3 // 165, 380, 360, 380, 360. Hokusai and Yang both do the same thing. Maybe it’s an artist thing?

As for a couple of Servants that really don’t like you, really, they’re not just being Tsun, both Consort Yu and Kama share this curve: 6, 24 (!), 15, 2.5, 2.5 // 155, 380, 360, 380, 360. That’s the highest spike at bond 2 I’ve seen, paired with another nearly flat back half.

Avenger Kama is less Tsun though: 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3 // 300, 300, 320, 240, 380. Very easy first half, ngl. Dips at 9, so the push at 10 only looks steep in comparison.
